New York State college students that are currently residing in a residence hall and was in foster care or an orphan may be eligible for low or no cost housing during winter break between the fall and spring semesters.
To be eligible, Students must meet all the following requirements:
- Currently reside in a college residence hall/dormitory.
- Currently attending a SUNY, CUNY, or private college with an HEOP program.
- At age 13 or older, was in foster care or an orphan (orphan as defined by the New York State Education Department).
- Currently homeless or at risk of imminently becoming homeless during the winter break due to the dormitories being closed.
If you met all the above requirements, you would need to communicate with your college and make arrangements for housing during the winter break.
If you do not meet these qualifications or have not made arrangements with your college, you can contact:
- Residential Life or Campus Residences Office at your college or University
- Dean of Students or student Affairs office at your college or University
- Higher or Educational Opportunity Program at your college or university
Please connect with the resources above and make your arrangements as soon as possible, but no later than when your campus is due to close for winter break.
