The OCFS Bureau of Juvenile Detention Services, which is housed within the Division of Youth Development and Partnerships for Success, is responsible for the certification, oversight and monitoring of the specialized secure, secure and nonsecure detention programs within New York State. This includes working closely with the detention programs on a regular basis to ensure they remain in compliance with Title 9 of the New York Codes Rules and Regulations, Part 180, Subparts 180-1 and 180-3, “Juvenile Detention Facilities Regulations.” The detention programs are located throughout New York State and are charged with providing supervision and care while maintaining custody of youth ages eight through 21 prior to adjudication or other disposition by family and/or criminal courts.
