GOVERNOR CUOMO PROCLAIMS SEPTEMBER AS 'KINSHIP CARE MONTH' IN NEW YORK STATE

Governor Cuomo has proclaimed September as Kinship Care Month in New York, showcasing the importance of grandparents and relatives caring for New York's children.

The OCFS Kinship Care website provides resources for families, plus information about services and the Kinship Guardianship Assistance Program (KinGAP), which is designed for a foster child to achieve a permanent placement with a relative who had been the child’s foster parent for at least six months.

There are currently more than 150,000 children statewide receiving care from grandparents and other relatives, who provide stability and continuity for children separated from their parents.
