Harriet Tubman Residential Center Sold at Public Auction for $900,000
New York State Office of General Services (OGS) Commissioner RoAnn M. Destito announced the sale of Harriet Tubman Residential Center at public auction for $900,000. The former residential center property, that closed in 2011 is located at 6706 Pine Ridge Road, Auburn, NY, Cayuga County. The minimum bid for the property was $250,000 and there were three registered bidders at the auction which was held at the Sennett Town Hall. The successful bidder did not disclose plans for the property, however plans must comply with local zoning laws. It is anticipated that closing on the property and transfer to the new owner will take place over the next several months.
“Reducing the tax burden on New Yorkers and encouraging private business investment have been priorities for the New York State,” Commissioner Destito said. “Today’s sale accomplishes both. Taxpayers will no longer shoulder the maintenance costs for an unused property and the purchase by a private company will put this property back on the tax rolls.”
“This sale saves taxpayers money and will ultimately transform a costly and underutilized facility into opportunities that will better serve the community,” said ESD President, CEO & Commissioner Kenneth Adams. “I applaud the joint effort of our state’s Office of General Services, the Office of Children and Family Services, Empire State Development and our other state agency partners who worked closely to find a successful bidder for the Harriet Tubman Residential Center.”
“As the transformation in New York’s juvenile justice continues, it’s critical to ensure we are re-using state property to maximize investment opportunities in our communities,” said Gladys Carrión, Commissioner of the Office of Children and Family Services. “Today’s sale begins the next chapter for this property and OCFS strongly supports the Governor’s push to encourage business across the state.”
