Low-Tech Solutions to Accommodate Employees who are Legally Blind

A majority of people who are visually impaired have some usable vision and many of them can be accommodated by low-tech solutions. The following is a list of low-tech solutions for people who are legally blind:

  • Improved contrast between light and dark objects;
  • Magnifiers;
  • Improved lighting or glare reduction;
  • Written materials in an accessible format, such as in large print, Braille, audio cassette, or computer disk;
  • Large print, Braille, or tactile markings on equipment;
  • A reader to read any type of hand written materials that are not accessible;
  • A cassette or digital recorder.
